JLD2k3's 5-3-1  from T-Nation | Most Discussed Topics  (2010/7/29 12:32)
Starting 5-3-1 on 5/10/2010 Background I've been lifting for about a year and a half. I grew up very small. I played football, basketball, track, and swam in HS. Swimming was my most accomplished sport, football and basketball (whichever was in season) was my favorite. I still play basketball in my work league, golf, and softball along with just now getting into power lifting. After college I didn't do anything for a few years (2003-2008). My buddy got me into Strong Lifts 5x5 after I tried to start running after a bad cholesterol report at 27. I had good results there for a long time. We did our first PL competition in March and I put up 1157 in the 198 class. Not a great total, but plenty of time to get better. I hope to get feedback from the forum on my training. Tips, suggestions, and motivation are always welcome. I'd also like it if every once in a while someone would remind me that I'm a little wimp and call me out when I'm b ...
Fell Off the Wagon, Haven't Gotten Back On  from T-Nation | Most Discussed Topics  (2010/7/29 12:31)
Hi all. I competed in my first figure comp back in July 2008, then ate everything that wasn't bolted down for 2 months following my comp. I managed to put on 12kg in that time... then gradually the weight crept on until I stabilised at 20kg over my comp weight for the past 18 months or so! Medically I am in my "healthy weight range". I train every weekday in the gym, like a good figure competitor does in the "off season". Thing is I've let this thing go on way too long. Haven't been able to break the binge cycle that started two years ago following my comp. I've started prepping for two comps since, and quit both halfway through the prep because I just couldn't get my head around it all again. Comp or no comp, the moral to the story is that I don't like what I see in the mirror... and I think life is way too short to spend a single day hating what I see in the mirror. A friend from America told me about the Velocity Diet. I h ...

Best Protein Price. Ever.  from T-Nation | Most Discussed Topics  (2010/7/29 12:30)
There's a local supplement shop going out of business, so i decided to take a little look see. Some not bad prices. Lots of stuff at cost. Then the clerk started talking about the whey they used to make, then said he would be able to sell some other bulk stuff for cheap. Naturally I inquired about it. This guy goes in the back and brings out a 27 pound bag of protein and asked how much I would pay for it. So, I said $50. Dude was like, "yeah, that sounds good". I was all like, "get the fuck out". Anyway, he went and checked the price. It was $200 at cost. This guy still sold it to me for $100. Yeah, that's awesome.

What a Rough Start  from T-Nation | Most Discussed Topics  (2010/7/29 12:26)
Hey guys, Started the V-Diet on Sunday. I have a couple of observations and questions, but wanted to give a little background on my self. I am 45 and have been active all my life. I have always fluctuated between 190-200 lbs, but have seen muscle mass and cardiovascular conditioning deteriorate. My measurements are as follows: Height 5'10 Weight 200 Neck 16 1/4 Shoulders 19 1/2 Chest-Upper 43 1/2 Chest-Lower 42 1/2 Waist-At Naval 38 1/2 Waist-At Largest 36 1/2 Upper Arm-L 14 1/4 Upper Arm-R 14 3/4 Upper Leg-L 23 3/4 Upper Leg-R 23 1/4 Lower Leg-L 15 1/2 Lower Leg-R 15 1/4 Ankle-L 9" Ankle-R 9" Here are my observations and questions. The afternoon shakes are not enough to keep me full. I was fine after the breakfast shake, but the lunch and mid afternoon left me in agony. The same occurred on Monday. On tuesday, I forgot to include the milled flax seed in my breakfast shake, which I drank at 9:30. By 11:00, I was on ...
Size vs. Strength  from T-Nation | Most Discussed Topics  (2010/7/29 12:26)
I feel like I've gotten a lot stronger. Stats: 5' 9" 160 lbs seated shoulder press: 135 3 x 4 bench: 185 3 x 4 squat: 210 3 x 4 deadlift: 275 3 x 4 But I look pretty much the same and friends who are weaker than me at the same weight look bigger than me. Do I just need to get a LOT stronger and eat a lot more before i see noticeable size increases? Also, I have no fucking chest. When I bench I get a pretty good pump in my chest, and I bench pretty wide.
Wingspan of a 747 with Thickness to Boot  from T-Nation | Most Discussed Topics  (2010/7/29 12:26)
A perfectly sculpted back can make you look THAT much more impressive from just about any angle. Wide, thick, separated. Would you like to view what a Legendary back looks like? Take a look a Franco Columbu's. His was one of the most impressive backs in bodybuilding in my eyes, especially for his time. Thick, Wide, clear separation between Lats, traps, infraspinatus, teres Major (i believe its the major...), with a bulging lower back accentuated by his tiny waist. What are the judges looking for when they view the back? 1. Thickness and muscularity of the UPPER back; 2. The sweep and width of the lats; and 3. the definition and development of the lower back and lats. So looking at the upper back to begin with; Well, if you are like i was not too long ago, then you dont realize the importance of the upper back. You think Lats are lats, and thats that. Well, that's not quite that. One major thing i see daily is the negligence of one's traps. Guess what, th ...
